Tanjung Piai Eco Run 2007 Powered by Malakoff
I cannot deny that i was somewhat nervous before the race. The fact that this event is sponsored by Malakoff, my sponsor and my employer, i felt that i have to perform well. Having just completed the Aviva Singapore Ironman 70.3 last weekend (2 September) where i was positioned 2nd, recovery is very crucial. During the few days before the race, i just did some recovery runs and lots of sleep to help me recover quick.
I took the effort to check out the race route the day before and found that the actual distance is 23km. Come race morning, i felt good. I was pacing with a thai runner for almost 3 quarter of the race. I could see Supa and Richard Habeya (both strong runners) from a distance. My intention was to maintain that pace and ensure that Supa and Richard (my friendly competitors) do not get out of sight.
With just 2km to the finishing, i felt strong and started to up my pace. i ran straight past Supa and Richard. I continued running hard with no intentions of looking back and past another indian runner. I reached the finishing line and was positioned sixth in my category with a time of 1:30.13.
The competition was stiff with two kenyans dominating the top spots with a time of 1.14. Followed by our national runners Muniandy and Shaharudin and a thai runner.
